Phi-4 QFTs and Renormalization Group Flow Directed Reading Program

Throughout January 2024, I participated in MIT Physics’ directed reading program (DRP). In this program, I was paired with a graduate student to study an agreed-upon topic throughout January. I was paired with Jean F. Du Plessis, a first-year Center for Theoretical Physics (CTP) graduate student. I am broadly interested in QFTs, specifically in QCD confinement and hadronization. Jean suggested we examine the running of the coupling in phi-4 theory. We worked through Peskin & Shroeder, completing the one-loop Phi-4 renormalization calculation and arriving at the running of the coupling. We completed this topic by exploring the renormalization group flow interpretation of the running of the coupling.

We explored a number of key methods such as dimensional regularization calculations, Wick rotation, as well as many mathematical methods from complex analysis.
